Some of Greece's biggest newspapers have launched a scathing attack on Michael Essien for deleting some of his pictures in his Panathinaikos jersey after he was dropped to the bench but the Ghanaian midfielder has told the fans not to believe what they read in the media about him.

The former Chelsea star says the Greek media are cooking up negative stories about he conducted a house cleaning exercise on his Instagram account but the coincidence is what has sparked the media into speculation.

Essien has lost his starting place in the Greens set up despite showing top form on his return from injury but the media and some club officials have been hugely critical of his performances.

This led to him being dropped from the starting line-up and the deleting of his Panathinaikos pictures has fuelled the thought that he is angry with the club.

The Ghanaian has denied the claim by directly addressing Panathinaikos fans that he is very loyal to them and should not believe stories in the media.

In a message sent to fans via his official Twitter account, Essien wrote: "Stay calm #Pao???? fans and don't believe what's said about me in the papers#Pao????????????."
