Ghana's Michael Essien has made the shortlist for Fifa's World Player of the Year awards. The coaches and captains of every national team will cast their votes in the coming weeks. The award, which was won last year by Barcelona's Ronaldinho, will be announced on 19 December in Zurich.
The list of 30 male players will be whittled down to three players, with their names being announced in late November or early December.
