Sunderland’s striker, Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew ,Kwadwo Asamoah and two other

Blackstars players are among the 30 players shortlisted for this year’s GLO/CAF

Award.

However, Nigeria’s and Chelsea’s midfielder, Mikel Obi and his team mate,

Michael Essin are among some ppromnent players whose names are conspicuously

missing on the list.

The popular belief among some fans that Nigeria and Chelsea of England

midfielder Mikel Obi is one of Africa’s best footballer in the outgoing year

has been given a setback when CAF released a provisional list of 30 footballers

for the Glo CAF Footballer of the year award for 2010.

The absence of Michael Essien of Ghana could be attributed to the long spell of

injury he suffered in the year under review, an injury that prevented him from

featuring for Ghana in the last World Cup hosted by South Africa.

In the list made available to members of the CAF Media, Technical and Football

committees, the members are expected to pencil down their ten nominees in the

order of their preferences.

After the three committees must have voted, the list of ten players will have

emerged and then be subjected to the final scrutiny of the continent’s national

football coaches.

Cote D’ivoire and Ghana have the highest number of nominees with five each,

Egypt, Morroco and Cameroun has three each, Algeria has two, while Mali, South

Africa, Zambia, Senegal, Benin and RD Congo have one candidate each.

As usual, the traditional names are not missing. They include Didier Drogba,

Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Etoo Fils, Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, Salomon Kalou and

Egypt’s Mohammed Gedo.
