Asante Kotoko midfielder, Kwame Bonsu has expressed unhappiness about being labeled “ex-convict” by a section of the Ghanaian media.

According to him, reading such headlines breeds hatred in him for his ex-wife.

Kwame Conte, as he is popularly known, joined Asante Kotoko late last year to re-launch his career after serving a one-year prison term in Sweden.

Bonus, who was playing for second division Gefle IF, was sentenced to two years in prison by a Swedish court in 2017 for allegedly raping and beating his wife. His sentence was however reduced to a year and ten months.

Since joining Kotoko, Kwame Bonsu has become a key player in the team, earning him his debut call-up to the National team.

But He tell Starr Sports though he has psyched himself to get over his past, being labeled “ex-convict” by the media back home hunts him.

“Sometimes to be honest with you, I have actually moved on but if I read these kind of headlines, it makes me feel some kind of hatred for my ex-wife and the country [Sweden] I was playing.

“But I can’t change how people think, what people want to right. You know sometimes they want to just get the attention of a lot of people reading their articles but this shouldn’t be the situation. At least I am a Ghanaian and we are to protect our own,” he told Starr Sports.

Bonus added: “It’s not about pleading. It’s about time we have to learn, we have to grow as individuals, as a country.

“…I am a Ghanaian and we have to protect our own. I am not saying this just for people to feel pity for me, no. I have psyched myself as a person, I know what I want in live and what I want to achieve.”
