Charles Osei Asibey, the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has said the national team, the “Golden Arms” will pick at least 20 medals, as they compete in the 10th Africa Armwrestling Championship billed for Bamako in Mali.
The Golden Arms of Ghana are scheduled to depart the shores of Ghana on Thursday, July 11, with ten athletes to defend their title won in Ghana last year.
At a media workout held on Thursday at t Accra Sports Stadium, Mr Osei Asibey, beaming with confidence, assured Ghanaians the team would return from the competition with not less than 20 medals.
According to him, they had wanted to travel with 20 athletes but were handicapped due to financial constraints.
“We will go to Africa and defend the title we won last year. With a team of ten, we would win not less than 20 medals. We would make Ghana proud in Mali.” Mr Osei Asibey said.
The captain of the side, Edward Asamoah told the GNA Sports that, the athletes were very confident going into the competition and believes, Ghana would defend the Africa title.
He said “We’ve been training for some time now and we are fully prepared for the event and we will win the title again.”
He thanked sponsors including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana Revenue Authority, Kofi Krom Pharmacy, and Club Consult Africa for supporting the team’s campaign.
The Golden Arms will be kitted with a Home and Away jersey by Club Consult Africa.
