Accra, Dec. 11, GNA - Extinguishers of Ghana National Fire
Service kept alive their hopes of reaching the next stage of the
ongoing 22nd Hockey Africa Cup of Club Championship courtesy a
7-0 routing of Egyptian female side, Sharkia on Friday at the National
Hockey Stadium, Accra.
The Fire Ladies took their tally to 10 goals in two games and are
yet to concede thus keeping them in pole position to wrestle the title
from Telecom Orange of Kenya for the first time. Fresh from the 3-0 thrashing of compatriots, Reformers of the
Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghanaians appeared too tough for the
Egyptians, who were earlier walloped 0-5 by Telecom Orange of
Kenya in the tournament opener last Thursday. Extinguishers led 3-0 at half time with efforts from Ramatu Abbas
in the fifth minute, followed by Juanita Korwu on 25 minutes and
Emelia Aggrey effort on the half-hour mark. Beatrice Darko increased the tally on 37 minutes before Racheal
Bamfo scored the fifth goal in the 56th minute. On the hour-mark, Linda Sasu scored the sixth before putting the
icing on the cake nine minutes later with a brace. In the other games, Reformers beat Nigeria's Heartland 1-0 whilst
Orange were held to a 1-1 draw by Yobe Queens also from Nigeria.
