The Black Princesses of Ghana will play Japan in their second group game of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup campaign today, September 4, 2024.
The Princesses will want to avoid defeat and salvage their tournament from an early exit after losing their opening game to Austria.
While Ghana began the tournament with a defeat, Japan, who are six-time winners, whipped New Zealand 7-0 in their opening fixture.
Ghana have never advanced beyond the group stage in its six appearances and are now on the verge of extending this streak to seven.
According to head coach Yusif Basigi, the Princesses have moved past the disappointing start and are ready to compete against one of the tournament's favourites.
"We’ve taken the pain to psych the players up, to put the game behind them, and look forward to the next game.
"Many will see us as underdogs because the Japanese won massively. We see ourselves as serious contenders.
"We’ve made them understand that a defeat will not be good for us. Not at all."
The game is slated for a 22:00 GMT kick-off time at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo.
