YAOUNDE, Cameroon (PANA) - The emergency committee of the International Federation of Amateur Football (FIFA) has told the Cameroon Football Association (FECAFOOT) that the Cameroon-Ghana game, a second round match of the preliminaries of the Olympic 2000 Games, will be replayed in Yaounde.
FIFA set 14 November for the replay and asked Cameroon to defray all costs relating to the organisation of the match.
In addition to the costs pertaining to the stay of the Ghanaian delegation, Cameroon is expected to take care of the transportation of Ghana's Olympic team from Accra to Yaounde and back to Accra.
This measure comes in the wake of the talks engaged by the authorities of the Provisional Executive Cell (CEP)of FECAFOOT with FIFA. The Cameroonian football authorities asked for the latter's leniency with regard to the technical incident which took place on 31 October when the match was first played.
The match ended in confusion when a Zimbabwean referee stopped the match one minute from the end of normal time on the grounds that there was poor lighting at the stadium.
The two teams were 2-2 when the decision was taken, and this angered the home fans, who blamed their own sports officials for the poor maintenance of 27-year old stadium.
