Despite handing a life ban to Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey over manipulation charges in the World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal, FIFA has cleared assistant referee David Laryea.
Laryea who was an assistant to Joseph Lamptey in the said game was fingered in the scandalous decision with reports that he was the one who drew the center-man’s attention to the incident.
But the World Football Governing Body has dismissed the charges against the Ghanaian assistant referee.
A statement of the FIFA website read: ‘On the other hand, all charges against the Ghanaian match official David Lionheart Nii Lartey Laryea, whose behaviour had also been the subject of investigations, were dismissed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.’
FIFA could order South Africa to replay their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Senegal after the referee was found guilty of manipulating the result of the game.
