The assistant coach of Ghana’s male senior national football team, the Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu says Saddick Adams who grabbed the headlines after scoring a hat-trick to help Kotoko beat rivals Hearts of Oak in the FA Cup final must work extra hard if he is to get into the Black Stars.
Adams churned out an amazing 45 minutes display in which he scored three times to put Kotoko on the path to their 9th FA Cup title.
In attendance to watch the game in Tamale was Maxwell Konadu, who was also in charge when Ghana won the recently ended WAFU Cup of Nations hosted here in Ghana.
Saddick Adams was originally part of the WAFU squad but had to pull out due to injury, but his heroics in Sunday’s epic clash has led to calls in some quarters that he is back to his best and should be called up for Ghana’s last World Cup qualifier against Egypt.
Speaking to GhanaWeb.com in Tamale after the game, Konadu was full of praise of Adams, but was quick to add that the striker must work hard and be consistent if he is to get a look in when the next call-ups are made.
“Today (FA Cup Final), he was voted the Man of the Match and he did everything that is important in football and won the match of the Kotoko fans. For a player to score 3 goals in a big match like this we have to congratulate him. Today, he worked hard and did the very simple yet important things. But he still needs to work harder and make sure that he does the minor minor things.”
Adams joined Kotoko earlier this year from Northern Cyprus in a bid to revive his career which was going down the hill.
Saddick was a former Ghana Youth star who was tipped for greater things, but a combination of factors, chief among them being poor choices, has ensured that he has not entirely lived up to the high expectations many had for him.
He once played for Spanish side Atletico Madrid with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
With the chance to play in the CAF Confederations Cup with Kotoko next year, Saddick who is only 27 years old, may perhaps finally fulfil his huge potential.
