Ghana’s Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has sensationally revealed that his much-criticized move from Sunderland to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates in 2012 was a well thought through decision.
Gyan speaking on Accra radio station, Joy FM, said he understands the criticism but was also seeking out for his best interest.
“The fame will always go away once your career is over. The moment you finish playing, people will forget you in a twinkle of an eye. At the end of the day, it is about me and my family and what I believe is good for us.”
Gyan who has played in three FIFA World Cups for Ghana and remains then nation’s all-time leading goal scorer is on the verge of a big-money move to China from Al Ain.
The 29 year old who spent just one full season in the Premier League with Sunderland on the back of the 2010 World Cup, is on the brink of signing with Chinese side Shanghai SIPG, who are managed by ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.
The deal will see him earn $350,000-a-week (£227,000), a weekly amount only bettered by a handful of the planet’s best players.
