Portland, Oregon, Sept 29, GNA - The Ghana Black Queens may be out of the of the on going FIFA women's World Cup in the United States but their "local" brand of soccer exhibited has won them a large partisan followers.
The Queens lost to China and Russia and managed a face-saving historic victory against Australia but their sweet-fluent all-attacking game has won the hearts of the fans, most of them Africans resident in the US.
A GNA investigation shows that apart from host USA, the second much-loved and cherished side is the Black Queens; and as such, their early exit has sadden the hearts of the fans.
Most of the Supporters the GNA Spoke said they would have loved to see the Queens go past the first round but it never materialised. Africa's representatives- Ghana and Nigeria- failed to make qualify for the next stage of the three-week tournament.
In spite of their early exit, the Ghanaian community in Portland has called for the present squad to be maintained for the next World Cup.
Mr Yaw Oduro, a resident of South Portland said the team would have a lot to offer if kept together for the next championship.
"No body should think of dissolving the present squad, I feel they can do better if kept together; there could be few additions and subtractions but the present squad should form the core. Most of the fans the GNA interviewed said the team has made a remarkable improvement as compared to the 1999 squad.
