Ghana goal stopper Fatau Dauda has rubbished speculations that a below-average performance is the reason he is being sidelined at his new club Orlando Pirates.

Dauda joined South African premier side Orlando Pirates a few weeks ago from Ashgold; but he is yet to be tested in a competitive game.

His inactivity has generated debate among the sporting world about his capabilities.

However, Dauda attributed his inactivity to his delayed work permit, a pre-requisite for foreigners, in an interview on Happy FM.

He indicated that he was warming himself up for the task ahead and that when the opportunity presents itself, he would make good use of it and rise to become the choicest keeper.

“It is not true that under performance is what is keeping me on the bench. It has to do with my work permit which delayed, but I can say that as we speak, it has reached the advanced stages.

“All I am waiting for is the opportunity to man the post. I promise to give my best shot. Our first choice keeper is brilliant, management is happy with my presence. Management says it will breed healthy competition in the goalkeeper’s department,” Fataw said.

Dauda however made his debut for Pirates on Sunday in their 5-1 pre-season friendly win over Lesotho side Matlama FC in Maseru.

The former Ashgold keeper is likely to be part of coach Kwasi Appiah’s men who would be arriving next week for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Zambia on September 6.
