Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda conceded three goals in his debut for Chippa United in the South African top-flight on Tuesday with his compatriot Mike Mohammed scoring for Maritzburg United who cruised to a 3-0 win.
Mohammed and John Paintsil also made their debuts for Maritzburg United with the latter’s experience and defensive prowess helped his side to seal the 3-0 home victory.
Both Ghanaian players were making their first starts for their respective clubs having received their work permits.
The home side started the match the better side with Nhlanhla Vilakazi, taking a shot a goal as early as the first minute of the match, but Chippa goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda, managed to easily deal with the ball.
Maritzburg’s first shot on target came in the 12th minute when Mkhize fired a 24-yard free-kick goalwards, but debutant Dauda was on hand to make a fantastic fingertip save.
Dauda got his debut to the worse possible start – having to pick the ball from his net in the 20th minute off a strike by Ghanaian hitman Mike Mohammed.
The former Orlando Pirates man kept his cool thereafter to see his side through a tough first half just a goal down.
Dauda making his Chippa debut managed to make more important saves to keep his team trailing by a solitary Anas’s goal heading to the half-time break.
Paintsil on the other hand was putting in a good performance with another Ghanaian defender Awal Mohammed on the Maritzburg bench.
Nhlanhla Vilakazi doubled United’s lead just six minutes into the restart to effectively kill off the fight-back from Kosta Papic’s side.
It got even worse for Dauda as Sheldon Van Wyk struck six minutes from time to put a gloss on United’s impressive home performance.
