On-loan Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder to Real Tamale United, Fatawu Mohammed has expressed optimism that Real Tamale United would stay in the Ghana Glo Premier League come the end of the 2012/13 soccer season, adding that he is ready to help the team survive the imminent relegation battle.

RTU recorded their worst ever first round campaign in the history of the Ghanaian top flight league after the team could only draw five matches out of 15 games to occupy the bottom of the league log with just five points at the end of the first round thus making their chance of staying up in the league very difficult.

But Fatawu Mohammed who is on loan from Asante Kotoko to R.T.U. said he has joined the team to help them fight for their Premier League status and is very confident of the team surviving come end of season. “I decided to join RTU to help them in their relegation battle and also to get more playing time for myself because in the first round, I was virtually inactive due to an injury. However playing for RTU will help me battle my way back into the fold of Kotoko next season.

Fatawu acknowledges that it would be a very tough task for the ‘Pride of the North’ to stay up in the league but he is optimistic that RTU can still pull it off and be among the top flight teams next season “if we can win at least 10 out of the upcoming 15 second round games which I believe we are capable of doing.”

He continued: “It’s actually difficult when you look at it but I think with hard work and also the management correcting the wrongs they did in the first round, I’m very sure we will escape relegation this season.” RTU begin the second half of the season on Saturday with a home tie against Amidaus Professionals at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium due to their home match ban.
