The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has held its third Chief Fire Officers biennial sports festival, to identify and select talented individual sports men and women to represent the Service at the up-coming Security Service Sports Association (SESSA) Games slated for Accra.

The two days sports festival, which was conducted simultaneously across the country, was to identify talents to compete for the Service and also to socialize and enable the officers and men co-operate in their discharge of their duties.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer, Patrick K. Donkor, addressing the participants after the competition, said the purpose of the sports festival is to keep firemen always fit, adding that 'as firemen and women we need to be fit at all times, and this is aimed at helping us exercise and keep us fit for our duties'.

Donkor said the competition was between Officers from the Headquarters, Accra Region, and the GNFS Training School. Some of the disciplines undertaken by the participants included cross country, Volley Ball, Ludu, Cards, Draughts, Tug of War, Table Tennis, and Football.

The Acting Chief Fire Officer thanked the participants for exhibiting great talents and discipline throughout the competition, and urged them to continue training harder in order to be able to represent the Southern sector during the grand finale of the Games to be held in the Western Region.

“You have all done very well, but it is important for us to work harder to attain higher grounds during the grand finale in the Western Region, and the future”.
