First W/R Inter-District Netball Tournament

Essipong (W/R), Aug 1, GNA - The National Sports Council (NSC) and the Western Regional Netball Association would organize the first ever regional netball tournament from August 15-16, this year, at the Essipong sports stadium.

Mr Samuel Ackah, Coordinator of the association, announced this at a press conference held at the Sports Stadium on Friday. He said all the 17 districts in the region have been invited to take part in the tournament.

Mr Ackah appealed to District Chief Executives to give the necessary assistance to their district netball teams to enable them to be part of the tournament, which is aimed at promoting the sport. He said the event would be sponsored by the Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL), tigo, Zain, Ahantaman Rural Bank, Somovision Ghana Limited and Promasidor Ghana Limited. Mr Alexander Teku, a representative of the NSC, also announced that the NSC and the Australian Embassy in Ghana would organise a handball outreach programme for instructors and coaches from the Ghana Armed Forces, the security services and the Ghana Education Service (GES) from August 9-15, this year.

He said a table tennis open championship involving the Western, Central, Eastern and Volta Regions would take place at the stadium in September this year.

Mr Beresford Amui, the Regional Sports Development Officer and officials of the NSC and the Regional Netball Association were present at the press conference.
