First batch of fans to depart on Thursday

Accra, June 9 GNA - The first flight scheduled to carry supporters and football fans to South Africa for the FIFA 2010 World Cup are expected to depart from Accra on Thursday night.

A statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports signed by the Deputy Minister, Nii Nortey Dua said the second and final flight will depart for Johannesburg on Friday, June 11.

Nii Nortey Dua said information on the final list of fans have been sent to the various nominating institutions and organizations and asked persons whose names were submitted to the Planning Committee to check their departure days from their institutions and organizations. According to the Deputy Minister, all persons nominated by various institutions to be a part of the official group of supporters must contact their institutions and organizations to confirm their names on the final list.

"Departure formalities for both flights will start at 7am each day at the El Wak Stadium, Accra", the statement added. Nii Nortey Dua also stated that there will be a durbar for all confirmed persons on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium at 2.00pm.
