A five member Interim Committee has been inaugurated, to supervise a united National Amputee Football Association and to recondition it for greater prospects.
The Committee which was inaugurated by Mr Majeed Bawa, Acting Director General of the National Sports Council (NSA), is made up of one representative from the NSA and two members each from the two divided bodies.
Members of the Committee include; Reverend Richard Nii Amartey Adesah (Chairman), Mr Daniel Nii Mensah (Vice Chairman), Fuesseini Bawah (Secretary), Mr Theodore Mawuli Viwotor and Mr Alexander Kwadjo Tetteh.
Mr Bawa said it was the duty of the Interim Committee to find a lasting solution to the problems facing the progress of Amputee Football in the country.
He said the Committee must by the end of the year ensure that, there is an election to elect substantive executive members to run the Association.
Mr Bawa however threatened that Ghana would not participate in the Amputee world cup this year, if the Committee is unable to resolve the managerial issues affecting Amputee football.
“This is a happy moment for Amputee Football. Today we can smoke a peace pipe for the collective interest of the development of the sport. What this means is that from today there will no longer be two bodies managing Amputee Football in Ghana.
“It would be one body that would work closely together to ensure that all are brought on the main road so that our names can be written in the history books of Amputee Football in Ghana,” Mr Bawa said.
“We in the NSA would not tolerate anybody who will bring disunity after today’s event. We would not hesitate to crack the whip…Our main objective is to build a very formidable and strong national team for the Amputee football.”
“If there is any problem that the Committee is not able to work together then I can assure you Ghana would not participate in Amputee world cup.”
Rev Amartyey, speaking on behalf of the Committee said it was a great day in the history of Amputee football. He said they were ready to work to unite the Association and set it on a new path to greatness.
