Brazil and world football great, Pele, revealed on Tuesday evening that he had written and recorded a song for the Olympics.

His message posted on micro-blogging platform, Twitter, revealed the title of the song as ‘‘Esperanca’‘ which was to be released in three days time, on July 15th, ahead of the upcoming Olympics.

‘‘I wrote and recorded a song called ‘‘Esperança’‘ for the Olympics. I can’t wait to share it with you, July 15th!’‘ his tweet read.

I wrote and recorded a song called ”Esperança” for the Olympics. I can’t wait to share it with you, July 15th!

Very little is known about the track and or why the 75-year-old who never took part in any Olympics decided to compose it.

Pele has spoken fondly about his inability to add an Olympic medal to his trophy cabinet; he never competed in an Olympics because professional players were barred during his days.

“I joke with my friends because we really never had a title, and this was a chance God gave to me in receiving this honour. Let’s hope and think positively, that maybe we can take an Olympic title, and once again, for all those who have been part of my story, thank you very much, may God protect you,” he said when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presented him with the Highest Olympic Honour of a necklace of rings and laurels.

He has maintained that despite challenges on the political, health and construction of venues for the Rio Olympics, the Latin American country would stage a perfect event.
