Footballers in Ghana are hugely underpaid and are also 10 times more likely than the global average to be physically attacked by club seniors. This is according to The International Federation of Professional Footballers (Fifpro), a trade union of sorts, which has conducted a global survey of nearly 14,000 professional footballers in 54 countries - the largest ever undertaken.

According to the survey, hundred percent (100%) of footballers in Ghana revealed they earn less than US$ 1,000 (£800) a month.

Players in Ghana revealed they face multiple forms of abuse including violent attacks on the pitch or outside; intimidation into signing contracts and isolation as a form of punishment

Players also reported very high levels of discrimination - which Fifpro categorised as racial, sexual or religious - by fans, other players, coaching staff and third parties.

Morocco is the best-paid African nation when it came to earning over $1,000 a month but players in the North African country are the most insecure on the continent about their future.

The International Federation of Professional Footballers (Fifpro) survey was conducted in 12 other African countries Botswana, Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia and Zimbabwe.
