Former Black Queens goalkeeper Patricia Mantey cries for help to undergo surgery

Former Black Queens goalkeeper, Patricia Mantey has appealed to the Ghana Football Association, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the public for financial assistance to enable her to undergo surgery following a sustained ligament injury.

The seasoned goalkeeper, instrumental in Ghana Immigration Ladies' first qualification for the National Women's League (NWL) in 2012, now relies on crutches and a leg brace for mobility.

In a discussion with Asempa FM, Mantey recounted the incident leading to her injury.

"I incurred my ligament injury in October 2021 during a friendly match with my club at McDan Astro Turf. I leapt and caught the ball during a corner kick, but upon landing, I felt my leg twist."

"After an MRI, the doctor informed me that my ligament tissues were severely torn, necessitating surgery, which is priced at GHC 60,000," she continued.

"While Immigration still compensates me, I am reaching out to the GFA, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the broader public to aid me financially for the ligament surgery."

Mantey was a key player for the Black Queens from 2012 to 2018 and contributed to the winning of the inaugural edition of the WAFU Zone B Women's tournament in Abidjan.

At 31, Mantey also boasts a history with the Black Maidens as she was part of the team that earned Ghana its first-ever qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand.
