Issa Hayatou, the former President of the Confederation of African Football, is reported to have died on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

A report by Cameroon Concord, citing CAF sources, indicates that Hayatou, who is the longest-serving CAF president, died in Paris, France, at the age of 77.

From 1988, Issa Hayatou reigned as the President of CAF until 2017, when he was replaced by Ahmad Ahmad from Madagascar.

At the FIFA level, the Cameroonian football administrator held various roles, including interim president, vice president, and a member of the Executive Council of FIFA.

"We have lost a remarkable leader, a man who devoted his life to the advancement of football in Africa," a CAF spokesperson remarked, as quoted by Cameroon Concord.

"His legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to further develop the sport on the continent."
