Former U20 skipper Hamza Mohammed to graduate soon

Former national U20 captain Hamza Mohammed is a year away from a degree in football management at the Victoria University in Australia.

The former Kotoko and King Faisal midfielder has been missing in action after his exploits with Kumasi-based Division One side King Faisal but he is quietly addressing the academic side of his profession.

Hamza who was a member of the Black Stars squad that represented Ghana at the 2002 Nations Cup in Mali was dropped for the 2006 World Cup in Germany and has since been in the academia.

Speaking to Ghanasoccernet.com of his whereabouts over the years, Hamza revealed that he has been silently pursuing a degree in Football Management and is just a year away from completion.

“I have been away for a while doing my course in Australia. I am pursuing a course in football management and will be completing my first degree next year.”

“I had an option to go into coaching but I opted for management because it is an area I personally love to be.”

“I started in New Zealand when we were dropped from the 2006 World Cup squad. As part of the regulations in the country governing their football, you need to go to school and study coaching, football medicine or management whilst playing.”

“I opted for the management and had to continue in Australia because I left New Zealand a few years ago but I was not ready to drop the course.”

Hamza appears to be one of the few Ghanaian players who have taken to education after their football career as epitomized by former Meteors captain and team mate Yusif Chibsah.
