Accra, June 22, GNA - A Non-Governmental Organization, Friends of the Physically Challenged Foundation (FCPF) has appealed for financial support towards their participation in the impending World Dwarfs Games. The National Dwarfs Team is billed to participate in the fifth edition of the quadrennial games billed for Belfast, Northern Ireland from July 28 to August 8, 2009.

The FCPF in collaboration with the Association of Sports for the Disabled (ASFOD) is organizing the nation's maiden participation which is meant for short-stature persons.

William Ezah, Communications Director of the Foundation who made the appeal during the official inauguration of the National Dwarfs Team on Monday explained that Ghana will participate in three disciplines in Athletics, Football and Table Tennis. "We therefore kindly urge all for diligently exploring enviable opportunities with support of corporate agencies on promotion and sponsorship of the event."

"The sport for short stature persons is a normal sport, very creative and interesting and we therefore call on the pundits and sports loving people to give us their moral and financial support," added Ezah. James Armah, Secretary General of the ASFOD, said the nation's participation in the tournament will serve a big boost to the development of Disabled Sports in the country.

He mentioned Benin and Nigeria as two other African participants for the event, which is fast gaining global prominence. The previous hosts of this prestigious event were USA (1993), England (1997), Canada (2001) and France (2005).

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian team is currently holding its training sessions at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra to fine-tune for the global tourney.
