Tarkwa, (W/R) Jan. 1, GNA - Frafras beat their ethnic counterparts the Dagabaas by three goals to one (3-1) to lift the ultimate trophy of a dog in part of the fun games between the two groups at the Cyanide Park at Tarkwa.

The two ethnic groups from the Upper East and Upper West Regions in the Western Region decided to organize the fun games at Tarkwa to mark the Christmas festivities and to usher in the New Year. All the goals were scored in the first half of the game. Daniel Kumbuoneg, a Frafra, scored the first goal in the 11th minute while Sule Bane scored the second and third goals for the Frafras in the 17th and 21st minutes respectively.

In their bid to match their opponents, the Dagabaas mounted pressure on the Frafras but failed to match their ethnic colleagues who stood firm to thwart all their efforts at scoring. The Dagabaas however were rewarded for their efforts when their attacker was brought down in the penalty area for the referee, Samuel Kofi Baah was on hand to quickly award a penalty in their favour. James Lankono made sure he converted the kick in the 26th minute to give a consolation goal to the Dagabaas to reduce the goal tally and bring the final scores to three goals to one (3-1) in favour of the Frafras.

In the tug-of-war contest between the female sides of the Dagabaas and their Frafra counterparts, the Frafras again pulled their counterparts to win the event.

The female Dagabass who seemed not dampered by their defeat, later put up an impressive cultural dance to encourage their followers. Chief Supt Daniel Sampana, Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander in a welcome address before the games said the fun games were to sustain and strengthen the bond of relationship between the Frafras and the Dagabaas.

He said the occasion was also to allow the groups to fraternize as brothers and sisters with a common destiny, adding that they have an ancestral linkage which needs to be strengthened for their socio-economic development. 01 Jan. 07
