Accra, Dec 14, GNA - National team player Fred Egyir leads the quarter-final pack in the Men's Singles of the Areeba Open Tennis Championship taking place at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra. He beat Charles Abugbila in two straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 on Wednesday to set up a date with Albert Arthur in Thursday's pairings. Arthur had earlier defeated Charles Asomani, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the quarter stage same as Raymond Hayford who sacked Bini Yeboah Etienne of the Cote d'Ivoire 7-6, 3-6, 6-1. In the ladies category, eleven-year old Anita Kodjoe meets her elder sister, Emma in the first quarter, while Abigail Opoku Mensah will clash with Mariam Mamoud, the Kumasi based Ivorien. Number one seed, Mercy Kodjoe will have to deal with Antoinette Cruickshank while a meeting between Vida Kuma and Kate Coleman complete the pairings. The men's Doubles will enter the semi final stage on Thursday with matches involving the pair of Menford Owusu and Albert Arthur in a duel against Aryee Dartey and Fred Egyir. Richard Afarku will pair D. Adjani to challenge the pair of Segui Abubakar and Lorfo Zebrina of Cote d'Ivoire in the other semi final match.
