Ghanaian midfielder Kwame Bonsu is 'relieved' after returning to his native country following his incarceration for rape and assault in Sweden, leaving his future to his agent.

The 23-year-old, who played for Swedish side Gefle, was convicted for raping and assaulting his former wife last year.

The midfielder was released after just a year after being handed a two-and-half years jail term.

And the player feels relieved to have returned home after the nightmarish and hellish experience, leaving his long-term future to his agent.

"To be honest with you, I am really enjoying having time with my family because I have missed that a lot," he told Kumasi-based Otec FM

"I ma going to stratetegize with my agent and then we take it from there. At the same time, there can always be a negotiation.

"I am free player now and I just want to have fun with my family and my agent will take care of that."

A Swedish woman named Maria Magnusson is believed to have framed up and decided to find a way to grab a final booty from the Ghanaian midfielder.

He first met her in 2014 when he was playing in the southern Swedish city of Mjölby. They married the following year.

A few months after the wedding he signed a transfer to the town of Gävle, located about 300 kilometres away from Mjölby.

The victim said the rape and beatings took place in the couple's apartment during an evening in November 2015 when he had refused to let her out.

Bonsu repeatedly denied the charges, but testimony from his wife's relatives led the court to believe the victim's version of events.
