Sunyani, Feb. 3 GNA - Christ Universal Evangelism Network (CUEN), a non-governmental organization, has declared every Friday a day for national prayers for the senior national football team, the Black Stars.
The Network in addition also called on religious bodies to intercede on behalf of the national team at all meetings to ensure God's direction and guidance for the players.
A statement issued by Evangelist David Thomas Aboagye-Mensah, President of the Network said the exercise would start from February this year to mobilize support for the team towards its glorious and victorious participation in the FIFA 2006 World Cup tournament in Germany.
Evangelist Aboagye-Mensah stressed the need for religious bodies to come together and show unflinching support and solidarity with the national team to help boost the morale of "our national coach, the captain and the entire team".
"If in times of election, crises, catastrophes and epidemics of greater dimension, churches and fellowships fast and pray as a combined force of God and call on God to save, redeem and restore peace and order then we of Network want the churches and fellowship to do likewise to ensure spiritual support for the team", it said.
The statement quoted Jeremiah 29:7, which enjoined Christians to seek the peace and prosperity of the nation through a prayerful support. "Even though we have no clear word or instruction from heaven that Ghana is destined to win the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, we believe that if believers of God from the 10 regions of Ghana come together to solicit spiritual help for our national team through fasting and prayer, for the winning hand of Almighty God, something great would emerge to our benefit as a nation".
The statement called on FM stations in the country to organise special prayer intercessions towards the 2006 FIFA World Cup, to call for God's favour, supremacy and a winning hand for Ghana.
