Frimpong complains over FIFA delays

Ex-England youth star Emmanuel Frimpong has asked FIFA to expedite action on his nationality switch to enable him play for Ghana as the process has delayed for one year.

The Ghana Football Association applied for a nationality switch of the hard-tackling midfielder last year to enable him represent his country of birth.

But FIFA’s ‘unprecedented’ demands from the Ghana FA has delayed the process.

FIFA wrote to the GFA in July saying they needed documents from the Scottish and the Welsh FAs confirming that he has not played for them as he holds a United Kingdom passport.

This is an unprecedented demand from FIFA for a player seeking nationality switch and even though the GFA has made those representations to the the Scottish and the Welsh FAs, the world governing has still not made a decision.

Frimpong, who plays for English giants Arsenal, is frustrated over the delays and wants FIFA to take action on his nationality switch now.

“Just need FIFA’s clearance so I can play for Ghana. It’s been over a year,” the 20-year-old complained.

Frimpong provided the world’s football governing body all the necessary documents confirming he is keen on playing for the Black Stars.

He returned to full training this week after spending seven months in the treatment room after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
