The Ghana Athletics Association and Ethiopian Airlines have signed an agreement to provide media coverage for the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China from 22nd August to 30th August.

The partnership brings together Africa’s largest Airline with the youngest fleet of aircrafts and one of the fastest growing National Sports Federation in Ghana.

The agreement, which is consistent with Ethiopian Airlines’ agenda of creating a “New Spirit of Africa,” will enable the GAA produce professional reportage of the biggest athletics competition in the world to an African audience and specifically to Ghana.

The President of the Ghana Athletics Association, Prof. Francis Dodoo said: “That, a major airline like Ethiopian Airlines is willing to collaborate with us to inform our country and region about what transpires at the Athletics World Championships speaks volumes about Ethiopian Airlines’ understanding of the significance of sport, and athletics in particular, as well as about the growing reputation of Ghana Athletics. We are grateful for this collaboration.”

The Country Manager of Ethiopian Airlines, Mrs. Genet W. Michael commented: “We are excited to enter into this partnership with the Ghana Athletics Association. Ethiopian Airlines recognises the importance of the work of the media in telling the African story. We believe the World Championships will be another opportunity to tell the African story to reflect the New Spirit of Africa.

“As a further testament to our resolve to provide the best services to our customers, we are offering 12% discount on Business Class and 10% discount on Economy Class tickets to all who will be travelling to Congo-Brazzaville for the All Africa Games.”

Ghana will be represented at the IAAF World Championship by sprinter Janet Amponsah and 800m runner Alex Amankwah who met the IAAF’s strict entry requirements for the ten-day competition.

It will be recalled that Team Athletics equaled Ghana’s second highest medal haul at the 2014 CAA African Championships in Morocco after winning 12 individual medals including the relays, and contributing three athletes to Team Africa at the 2014 IAAF Continental Cup in Morocco.

The World Championship is the biggest athletics stage with over 200 nations participating, including Ethiopia and Ghana.
