GBA institutes annual aid walk to raise funds

Elmina (C/R), Oct.1, GNA- Members of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) who are attending the annual general conference at Elmina, on Wednesday went on an aid walk, dubbed, " walk in aid of charity'' through the principal streets of Elmina to raise funds for the poor and vulnerable.

Similar exercises would to be held in other parts of the country. The Association instituted it for the committee for Women and Minors' Rights (CWMR), in Augu0st this year to raise 200 million cedis by the end of the year.

The Elmina walk at Elmina, yielded 10 million cedis through donations and pledges.

Funds raised, will be used to cater for neglected children, women who have no proper sources of income and the physically handicapped. This year's conference has the theme " consolidating constitutionalism: the role of the legal profession".

Mrs Gladys Attobrah, a member of the committee, said time has come for lawyers who have been in the forefront of Ghana's political struggle, to help the deprived in the society.

Mrs Celeste Krahene- Williams, committee's programmes Co-ordinator, said the event has been instituted in collaboration with the African Women's Lawyers Association (AWLA) and the Federation of Women's Lawyers (FIDA) to help achieve the desired objective. She appealed to the public and organisations for their support, in order to help "make life a bit better for the unfortunate ones".
