Accra, June 10, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), on Saturday presented 15 bags of rice to ten boxing gymnasiums and the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA).

The Continental Commodity Trading Company (CCTC) donated the package as part of efforts to assist in the development of the sport in the country.

Ten bags went to the ten gyms that participated in the just ended Men Only Boxing Championships with the remaining to the GAABA, as support towards the inaugural amateur league. The Gyms are: Akotoku Academy, Fits Square Boxing Club, Wisdom Boxing Club, Sagacious Boxing Club, Black Panthers Gym, Panix Gym, Will Power Gym, Bukom Boxing Gym, Stadium Club and Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym. Mr Moses Foh Amoaning, Chairman, said the GBA was in talks with some companies towards securing a sponsorship deal for the amateur boxing league, within the shortest time.

He thanked CCTC for the gesture and urged other companies to come on board to support the noble art of self-defence. Mr Godwin Nii Dzanie Kotey "Alloway" President of the United Coaches Association of Ghana and Mr Gideon Quartey, Vice Chairman of GAABA received the items on behalf of the gyms and GAABA respectively. Meanwhile, Attoh Quarshie Boxing Gym dominated the Week 14 of the GAABA league, which came off over the weekend.

Attoh Quarshie emerged victors in three of the five bouts on the evening with King Paul having the easiest path via a walkover after his opponent, Emmanuel Tagoe of Black Panthers Gym failed to show up. In the light heavyweight division, Charles Stella defeated Samson Dzaku of Akotoku Academy just as Offei Dodoo replicated a similar fate on De-Oak Gym's Mike Annani in the light welterweight division. Felix Agbozo of Ashaiman Gym defeated Saviour Tetteh of Fits Square Gym in the welterweight category just as Mike Pappoe of Panix Gym defeated Raymond Commey of Square Deal in the featherweight division.
