The Ghana Cycling Association (GCA) gears up for a tight schedule in the year and kick-starts its programme with the annual Euro-Africa Cycling showdown in Accra, tentatively fixed for the middle of the month.
The one-day competition organised by SPORPUB International for selected African countries notably Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger and Algeria in each year, is aimed at exposing the experiences of top European cyclists to their African counterparts. It is also to tap the talents from the Europeans to enrich that of the Africans.
Last year, the programme started from Algeria through to Burkina Faso, but organisers are yet to communicate to the Africans where it would start in the year and when. The association said it has a busy schedule this year including the All Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria and would use this competition to fine tune before the big game.
Francis Kpesenu, Sec. Gen. of the association told GNA Sports that selection of the Ghanaian team would be based on the performance of cyclist at the Tour Du Ghana and other competitions held last year.
