Ghanaian sports journalist, Abdulai Muftawu Nabila, has disclosed that the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Football Association, Michael Bogdan Osekre, has threatened to physically attack him after his recent revelations on social media.

Muftawu stated that Michael Osekre phoned him, informing him of his intent to attack him at his office for reporting that the GFA is planning to make him the next ExComember if they succeed in getting Kwesi Appiah to step down.

"Chief of Staff" of the GFA, Michael Osekre, called me a few minutes ago to threaten me with a physical attack in my office for reporting that he's a potential candidate to replace Kwesi Appiah on the ExCo if the Sudan head coach decides to resign from his role,” Muftawu wrote on X.

The sports journalist, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, revealed on social media that some top hierarchy of the GFA were pushing for coach Kwesi Appiah to step down from his position as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Coach Kwesi Appiah was elected to the GFA ExCo on the card of Asante Kotoko. However, due to his role as head coach of the Sudan national team, Kwesi Appiah is being compelled to step down due to a potential conflict of interest.

Despite the increasing pressure, Kwesi Appiah is not willing to exit his position at the GFA and even had to walk out when discussions about the Black Stars arose during a recent ExCo meeting held in July.

“Grapevines have it that Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah is being told to resign as an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association. If Appiah resigns, 'Chief of Staff Michael Bogdan Osekre could be a likely candidate to replace him on the ExCo.

"It doesn’t appear Appiah will step down, though. Apparently, in the last Executive Council meeting, Appiah excused himself when matters of the Black Stars were about to be discussed,” Nabila wrote on X on August 14, 2024.

The pressure on Appiah has increased since his team, Sudan, was drawn into the same group as Ghana for the 2025 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
