GFA Elections: I won't be disqualified - Fred Pappoe

GFA Presidential hopeful Fred Pappoe has described his encounter with the Vetting Committee of the Ghana Football Association as ‘smooth’ and interesting.

Papsey as he is affectionately called is one of seven candidates hoping to be elected by an elective congress of 120 members to lead Ghana football for the next four years.

As part of the electioneering process, aspirants had to be grilled by a committee of five persons on why they should be allowed to contest the elections.

Speaking to pressmen on the sidelines of Osei Kwaku Palmer’s manifesto launch, the Great Olympics chief said that he had a friendly chat with the committee which is chaired by lawyer Mr Frank Davies Esq.

The committee is expected to announce the outcome of its meetings with the aspirants later today and there have been reports that some candidates will be disqualified but the ex-GFA vice president says he is not perturbed by those reports.

“I will say my vetting was smooth. It was an interesting conversation with the panel. We all learnt a lot and had a very nice chat here and there. So to me it was a very nice and cordial process. It is good that they are coming up with the report but I don’t anticipate with apprehension or anxiety”.

Fred Pappoe’s experience is in stark contrast to Osei Palmer who admitted to being ‘pushed’ by the committee.

“They pushed me but I will say it went well. I was able to give explanations to some of the questions raised and I am most grateful. The Almighty had me prepared for most of the issues that they raised.”

Elections will be influenced by policies

Contrary to perceptions that money will be a huge factor in the upcoming elections, Fred Pappoe reckons the candidate with the best plans and policies will be elected by the delegates to lead the association.

“I believe the issues confronting us. The possibility of charting a path which will send us to the path of progress or steep decline again are the factors which will influence the delegates and I believe that the delegates will be influence in the great way by these factors” he said.
