The race to the Presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) seems to have been blown wide open by a spectacular last minute entrance.

56-year-old legal practitioner George Ankoma Mensah has thrown his name into the ring with the promise of integrity, accountability, a brighter future for clubs, players and football equity in Ghana that fans can trust and enjoy.

A powerful curriculum vitae with over three decades of law practice and a clientele that stretches from local business magnates to global corporate giants, suggests that Mr Ankoma Mensah means business.

Among his backers is a former FIFA World Cup winner, top British diplomats with major investment interests and partners in the EPL as well as American legal and commerce links.

The surprise candidate has strong local roots stretching from 2001 and in has been an Executive Director of Odorkor Kwashiman United in Accra and and advocate for Women's football.

A key pillar of lawyer Ankoma Mensah's vision is to connect and resource local football clubs at community level to teams up the higher scale of domestic football through technical, financial and infrastructural support.

Whether or not lawyer Ankoma Mensah will rally enough votes to cause a major upset at the 25th October Elective Congress, would depend on delegates conviction

that he can bring in major sponsors to transform the dwindling fortunes of Ghana football.
