''GFA Officials Are Looters''- Muntaka

Ex-Sports Minister, Mubarak Muntaka Mohammed has accused the Ghana Football Association of massive corruption describing them as "official looters" of the state coffers. Muntaka resigned two months ago under controversial circumstances after allegations of financial malfeasance during his tenure in office were not substantiated.

He claims the budget for the Black Stars matches were inflated and had to slash to an appreciable level after meetings with the Football Association President.

"If Ghanaians know about the kind of massive rot in the sector, especially the GFA, they will cry aloud for an instant revolution into how things are done. In fact positive defiance maybe," he quoted as saying in the Graphic Sports. "The GFA has formed a strong clique to champion its nefarious course in office, but I believe in my heart of hearts that Insha Allah at the very appointed time the beans will spill and the truth will come out regardless of how long it takes."

Muntaka questioned how the nation could pay bonuses of US$ 8,000 and US$ 10,000 respectively for home and away games in the joint Nations Cup/World Cup qualifiers.

"Apart from the bonuses, each of them earned 100 dollars as per diem in camp and putting the figures together I thought it was too much for a third world country like Ghana to pay," he added.

"Not basically because of the players, but why would the officials ,i.e team doctor, massuer, FA officials and even a ball boy take the incentives as was presented." Muntaka also revealed that he received death-threatening text messages to deter him when he demanded an explanation for that.
