It is a great pleasure, privilege and honour to be given the opportunity to write in this year’s brochure for the SWAG awards.
I would like to congratulate SWAG because the members of the fraternity
are known to strictly follow the ethics of the profession of journalism
and they have done this over the years. Through the dedicated work of
SWAG members, sports officials have been brought back to the track which has resulted in the impressive results we have seen in many sporting activities in Ghana.
However, in recent times - with the proliferation of radio stations - we have seen some radio presenters particularly in the sports industry not
adhering to the basic ethics in the trade of journalism.
Since there is no effective organisation/body in the country for sports radio presenters it would be prudent for SWAG to take the bold initiative of bringing sports radio presenters under SWAG’s umbrella so that they can also benefit from your experience and expertise for the betterment of
sports in Ghana.
The promotion of sports without the support of sports journalists is
impossible and the bodies running sports and sports journalists go hand
in hand with just one aim in mind - and that is uplifting sports in
Ghana.
On behalf of the GFA, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all
members of SWAG and the sports media in general as you have contributed to the successes we have seen in Ghana football over the past nine years.
We would be pleased to receive suggestions and feedback from the sports
media that could assist us to improve and give the country and sports
fans the desired results.
To the award winners congratulations and for those who missed out I know you will work harder to win such laurels in future.
