GFA Wins Case

The High Court in Sekondi yesterday refused an application by Joseph Kwame Quarm to restrain the Ghana Football Association (GFA) from commencing the 2004 Premier League. In addition, the court fined the plaintiff, Quarm, ?4m.

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the GFA, Dr N. Nyaho-Tamakloe, the Presiding Judge indicated that he would give "full reasons for the ruling" on June 1, 2004.The Sekondi High Court placed an interim injunction on the Premier League a little over a week ago when the competition was set to commence on May 2.

The court order therefore had serious repercussions on the already delayed league after the first three matches were suspended.However, the dismissal of the application has paved the way for the league to take off at the GFA's own convenience.As a result of the High Court?s ruling, the Professional League Board (PLB) is meeting in Accra today to discuss the future of the league.
