Accra, Aug. 30. GNA – The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has renewed its sponsorship deal with headline sponsor Goldfields Ghana Limited.
The one year deal worth 1.5 million dollars for the Black Stars was signed at a brief ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, by the two parties.
Alfred Baku, Executive Vice President of Goldfields Ghana said the deal was a demonstration of the company’s renewed commitment to the cause of the Black Stars.
Baku said the company has over the past six years made huge investments into the running of the Black Stars as the headline sponsors of the team, and this saw a contributory factor to Ghana’s first ever qualification to the World Cup in Germany in 2006.
He noted that “the massive cash injection of 1.5 million dollars per year, breathed new life into a hitherto dithering campaign and marked a major turnaround in the fortunes of the Black Stars.
“Today we are renewing our commitment by signing another deal that will ensure success of the Black Stars”. Baku stated.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the GFA expressed appreciation to the mining company for the gesture and assured them that the funds will be utilized judiciously.
He said the package will further strengthen the resolve of the Black Stars to secure qualification to the 2014 World Cup.
Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports described the gesture as a great relief for the ministry, since the government was finding it difficult to finance the activities of Black Stars alone in the face of other competitive needs.
