The Father of the Asiakwa SOS Children's Village, Mr. Kojo Dadzie, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take over the payment of allowances and transport fares of match officials handling colts, second and third division league matches.

He said this could help reduce bribery and corruption among match officials who are tempted to please clubs willing to give them financial rewards after handling their matches.

Mr Dadzie made the call at the presentation of membership certificates and badges to newly qualified referees in the East Akim, Fanteakwa and Kwaebibirim Districts at Asiakwa on Saturday.

Referees, Seidu Mbrahim and Dennis Oddom (Akyem Tafo), Amfo Sekyi,(Begoro) and Agyekum Essilfi, (Adasewase) qualified as referees two years ago. Bismark Appenteng, Lawrence Ebenezer Darkwa, Abaam (Kade) and Prince Agama (Akyem Tachiman) qualified as referees last year.

Mr Dadzie urged the Association to intensify its education of spectators on rules and regulations of the game to help reduce the tendency of spectators attacking referees out of ignorance.
