GFA blasts Nyantakyi detractors

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Sani Darra, has lashed out at Kwesi Nyantakyi’s critics, stressing that such people are selfish.

He intimated that the rough tactics employed by the GFA president’s detractors will neither discourage nor prevent him from carrying out his vision of taking Ghana soccer to a higher pedestal.

He said some people who are interested in the GFA presidency have decided to resort to insults and insinuations in order to make Lawyer Nyantakyi unpopular when they know they can not take Ghana football anywhere even if they are given the chance.

The GFA Communications Director expressed worry over the development, calling on Ghanaians to ignore the ranting of such people.

He said on radio that “some people have decided to damage the image of Kwesi Nyantakyi because of the GFA seat.”

Mr Darra admonished such people to refrain from such tactics and rather contest Mr. Nyantakyi for the top position. According to him, people that have been insulting Mr. Nyantakyi know they would lose if they contested him at the polls for the GFA presidency.

Since such people know that they don’t stand the chance of beating Mr. Nyantakyi during elections, they have decided to tarnish his image in order to force him to step down, he said.

He emphasized however that no amount of pressure would compel the GFA president to step down.

Darra debunked rumours that Mr. Nyantakyi was solely taking decisions for the GFA, saying that such rumours are unfounded.

He stated that the executive committee takes decisions for the GFA, so Mr. Nyantakyi’s detractors should leave him alone.

It would be recalled that various personalities have recently mounted a crusade against the GFA president, calling on him to step down, with the latest being Samuel Osei Kuffour.

Lawyer Nyantakyi set history by becoming the first GFA president to take Ghana to the World Cup in 2006, and subsequently qualifying the country to two consecutive World Cups in 2010 and 2014.
