GFA dissolution is meant to save presidency from embarrassment - Administrator

A delegation from FIFA has been dispatched to meet with the Sports Ministry over government’s plans for the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association.

Speaking on the issue, a well-known football administrator, Mr. Takyi Arhin said, FIFA is very busy with the world cup at Russia but the government still insisted that, they wanted to seek audience with them.

The delegation, he said would come not only to listen to the side of the government but also people in football as well. Afterwards, there would be a roadmap like that of what happened in Nigeria.

“Why do people want to dissolve the GFA? Is it meant for political expediencies? he asked. At Customs and Judiciary when there were similar cases, the individuals were dismissed while the organizations remained. Alfred Obeng of BOST was dismissed but BOST still operates.

Similar instances can be said of former MP for Asinafo North and main boss at the National Sports Authority, Robert Sarfo and RSVO in Ashanti Region, Joshua Mensah he stressed.

“We all accept that there is rot at the GFA and that we need total overhauling. I am for the reforms but one cannot put the cart before the horse”, he added “Is it because the President of GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi mentioned the names of the President, Vice President and some ministers at the hem of affairs”, he further asked.

“FIFA deals with federations not government. FIFA will let government know that it cannot interfere in GFA and that, the set committee is dead on arrival. The Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah who is not on top of the business would be exposed to the truth by FIFA”, he emphasized.

Mr. Takyi Arhin also hinged on the fact that the situation would indeed affect the transfer of players in foreign countries.

“There are a whole lot of players lined up to be transferred into other foreign teams. Foreign teams in Ghana would look at Ghanaian players with a suspicious eye full of disbelief. A player who may bid for $1 million may now be bid for half $1 million because of the cases of corruption in the Ghana football”, he lamented.

“If the Sports Minister was on top of the game, he would have advised management on the institution of the committee.Government is bent on dissolving the GFA because of the names mentioned by Kwesi Nyantakyi. They are relieving the pressure off their shoulders because they are aware Ghanaians are angry with the GFA. This he said he thinks informed the setting of that reform committee. Government is in no place to set a committee for reforms”, he stressed.

Concluding he said, let’s wait for all that the government has for us. If government still pursue its aim of dissolving the GFA, we would also not fold our arms, we have a legal team who would meet them in court.

Adding, he said he thinks that considering the events that have unfolded, government would not have that moral courage to pursue that agenda.
