GFA head to polls for VP slot

Following the demise of Jordan Anagbla a few months ago, three candidates are lining up to replace the former Ghana Football Association Vice President.

Accra Hearts of Oak CEO Fred Crenstil is said to be the frontrunner in the race to become the second most powerful man in Ghana football but he faces keen competition from fellow Executive Committee members Adam Munkaila and Mr MNS Doe.

Mr Fred Crentsil’s strong networks within the FA make him favorite, although Mr MNS Doe, who is head of the Central Region Football Association, is a more hands on candidate. Analysis

Crentsil's record in the past has been poor, having managed Zaytuna at the time they were in the Premier League and taking them into relegation.

The administrator also took charge of the Black Starlets and was unable to oversee their qualification into any major competition before he left the post. Then followed other stints before he became Black Queens management committee boss.

Even though that portfolio yielded little by way of performances of the team, Crenstil's connections got him a big job as the CEO of Accra Hearts of Oak.

Mr MNS Doe is a veteran administrator, who started his relationship with the game as a ball boy at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. What might affect him have been recent matters of corruption in which he has been fingered, although they have been unproven, at the First and Second Division levels.

Adam Munkaila is seen as a solid administrator, but his lack of political friends willing to stand by him will cost him. He is also known as one seemingly unwilling to play to murky business of football political battles.

On a purely experiential basis, MNS Doe is streets ahead of Fred Crentsil, however the Hearts of Oak boss is likely to win the coveted position because the current GFA President is known to trust him.

The GFA vice presidency elections are scheduled to be held by the end of this month.
