The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is over 166,000 dollars indebted to the former Black Stars’ coach, Kwesi Appiah.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the GFA has yet to make good their agreement to pay Appiah a signing on fee three months after agreeing to a new two-year contract.

A trusted source at the GFA told GNA Sports that Appiah, who according to the eight-page contract signed on May 23, and worth 166,002 dollars in signing on fees had received nothing at the time of his exit.

According to clause 6.1.1 of the contract which became effective on August 1, the coach was supposed to receive $60,000 by the day of execution of the contract with the remainder paid before the end of the contract on August 31 2016.

The contract said “The Association (GFA) shall pay to the coach for his services under this agreement. (6.1) In addition to the above, the coach shall also be entitled to US$166,002.00 as signing on fees to be paid in two (2) installments; US$60,000 to be paid by the date of execution of this Contract and the rest paid before the end of this Contract.”

Appiah, worth a gross monthly salary of over $38,000 supervised 28 matches, winning 13 losing 10 and drawing five at the helm.

The coach who led the Black Meteors to the All African Games glory in Maputo in 2011 and later became the first indigene to qualify Ghana to the World Cup has yet to also receive his entitlement after leading the Stars to an impressive 3-2 win over the Hawks of Togo in Lome.

The source said “The players received their full winning bonus after the win in Lome and we are doing whatever possible to ensure he (Appiah) gets what he is entitled though we have already parted ways.

“The same goes for the technical team and the backroom staff who were in Lome with the coach as well.”

Per the contract, “The coach shall be entitled to the following performance bonuses: (6.1.3.1) In the case of the Black Stars, shall be twice any sum paid to the players of the Black Stars, for winning any competitive international match.”

The coach was sacked earlier this month despite amassing four points out of a possible six in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, a day after leading the Stars to an impressive 3-2 win over the Hawks of Togo in Lome.
