Accra, Feb 18, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has restored to Obuasi Goldfields FC the 12 points it deducted from the club's total point build up in the 2003 Kinapharma Premier League.

In a statement signed by Mr. Kofi Nsiah General secretary of the GFA and copied to the GNA Sports on Wednesday, said the decision to restore the points to Goldfields was based on the advice of its Legal Committee. The Appeals Committee of the GFA last year deducted 12 points from the points build up of Goldfields for allegedly fielding an unqualified player in the name of Valentine Atem, a Cameroonian import in the premier league.

The decision was however quashed by a High Court in Cape Coast following a court action by a supporter of the club suing the FA over the decision.

According to the statement, the GFA took its decision to restore the 12 points in the best interest of Ghana soccer and also to ensure the smooth take off of the 2004 premier league.

The statement added that the GFA has also decided to amend its rules and regulations to reflect the laws of Ghana.

The Cape Coast High Court ruled that there was an error on the face of the record and therefore accordingly quashed by certiorari the decision of the Appeals Committee.

The release said this is because the Court found that whilst the GFA Regulations stipulated approval of the Immigration Service for residence and work permits, the Immigration Act. 2000, Act 573 specifically gives the Minister of the Interior the power to grant residence and work permits.

The GFA has therefore decided to amend its rules and regulations to reflect the laws of Ghana.

It has also decided to fix Wednesday, February 25, as the date for the play off match between Brong Ahafo United and Bibiani Gold Stars. The match scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium will determine which of the two clubs qualify to play in the next premiership.

BA United placed third from the bottom in the 2003 premier league while Gold Stars placed third in the National Middle League.
