The communications director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saanie Daara has unequivocally debunked reports that the contract between the Black Stars and state-owned company Ghana National Petroleum (GNPC) has been terminated.

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Kyei-Mensah last week hinted of a termination of the agreement that saw GNPC pump 3 million dollars into the Black Stars annually.

According to Kyei Mensah, the Parliamentary select committee on Petroleum ordered the management of GNPC to truncate the deal.

However the head of communications at the FA says the football body has not been notified officially about the alleged termination of the contract between them and GNPC.

He further stated that their conversations with the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah has revealed that the reports are mere fabrications that must be treated with a pinch of salt.

“It is not true that the contract has been cancelled. The Sports Minister spoke to us on Friday and assured us that the deal has not been cancelled. Ignore any report about the termination of contract”. Saanie Daara said.

GNPC signed a contract with the Ghana Football Association in 2013 to replace mining firm Goldfields as the headline sponsor of the Black Stars.

The deal has come under serious scrutiny with critics saying that the venture by GNPC is a fruitless one.
