Accra, July 19, GNA -- Congress, the highest decision making body of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday, decided to put to rest the 450,000 dollar saga that has been at the corridors of the FA since 2000.
The saga is in connection with monies received by the GFA in 2000 during the organisation of the CAN 2000 hosted by Ghana/Nigeria as well as appearance fee for two international friendly games against Egypt and Greece by the Black Stars.
The issue became a major subject of discussion as the Delegates at the Congress engaged in a long debate over whether the issue should be put to rest or a three man committee be set up to follow up on the issue.
Most of the Delegates who argued for the issue to be put to rest were of the view that, it's long overdue and there are more important issues for the FA to tackle, hence the need to concentrate on those instead of opening old wounds.
Some of the Delegates on the other hand argued that a case of such a heavy amount should not be swept under the carpet but must be pursued to its logical conclusion.
At the end of the one and half hour of debate, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the GFA, who chaired the Congress recommended for a vote on the issue.
In a show by hand voting, 54 of the Delegates supported the call for the issue to be put to rest whilst 10 called for the formation of a committee to handle the case.
With this development, the case which, has been pending for the past years has finally been to put to rest though some members of Congress seemed disappointed at the verdict.
