Accra, May 23, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been called upon to scrap or modify its outmoded bye-laws so as to be in position to run a smooth league system.
This arrangement will help minimize the number of protests that are brought before at the end of every soccer season. Mr Michael Cofie, Chairman of the Teshie Nungua Asante Kotoko Supporters Union made the call at the union's meeting in Accra on Saturday.
The meeting was to find out how best the Union could help the Club win this year's league and the African Champions League competition.
Mr Cofie mentioned an occasion when a club suffered the deduction of six points for fielding an unqualified player in a match it had won the three points at stake as unjustified.
He said it was necessary that the GFA published the names of all unqualified players in the media before the commencement of any league season so as to prevent the spate of protests from the clubs. On this year's league, Mr Cofie said the GFA should have rather seeded the top four clubs in the last year's league rather than dividing the clubs into two zones where the two top clubs have been grouped in the northern sector.
Mr Cofie also asked the association to persuade Accra Hearts of Oak to pay the Charles Taylor's transfer money of 850,000 cedis back to Kotoko since it was the association that ordered to pay the amount. He appealed to players of Asante Kotoko to avoid complacency in their matches since he said it had cost them a lot in some of their matches. Mr Cofie urged all Kotoko supporters to throng to the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday to give moral support to the club to enable it convincingly beat USMA of Algeria.
